California Ground Squirrel
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Rodentia: Sciuridae, Spermophilus beecheyi (California Ground Squirrel)|
This is the most common squirrel in California. It damages vegetation and is a serious reservoir of plague (Yersinia pestis), the cause of the Black Death that killed millions of people in Europe in the 13th Century. There are approximately 20 human cases of bubonic plague in the United States each year. There are many more in different places in the world annually. Fleas are the insect that acts as the principle vector of the plague bacillus.

Although the light in your image is a bit harsh, making the colours look a bit dull, I like the overall image. These animals are always one of my favourites to look at and admire as they are so damm cute, such a pity they are a nuisance as you describe in your note. Best regards and thanks for sharing.

A stunning portrait; where two characters are masterfully captured:
The Spermophilus atricapillus and sunlight.
Une belle attitude du sujet saisie sous un bon angle de prise de vue ; la lumière ma paraît tout de même un peu trop forte pour apprécier pleinement la délicatesse des couleurs.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
Excellent close-up photo of this beautiful animal that is the California Ground Squirrel,
fine POV on tis pose and obtaining its eye-contact, beautiful light, great focus,
sharpness, and details, the catch-light enhance the photo by rendering it more beautiful, TFS
