[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These beautiful moths are fairly large with females obtaining a wing span of nearly 7 inches. Females are larger then males and are predominately yellow with some brownish purple wing markings. The males are a little smaller and their markings are far more prevalent and concentrated.

This particular specimen decided to visit us one night as we were cooking out in the back yard. It was flying around the campfire and eventually landed on a nearby dead stump.

The imperial Moth is found in Ohio during the late summer months. Their numbers seem to be declining a bit in the eastern states where they once were quite common. Adults moths do not feed, but their caterpillars consume conifers, oaks, box elders, maples, sweet gum and a few other deciduous trees.

Hi Ron,you have raison, this moth is a great beauty! What a magnificent wings design and what a magic colors too.The pic is good but not the best, the moth is a bit blurred, the DOF seems better on the tree and not on the moth.Have a nice Sunday and thanks, luciano

Hello Ron,
An impressive moth!! And taken in USA. I was thinking about more South..
Interesting note. Sharpness is a little bit just, but at night it is not evident to take pictures of insects.
Kind regards
Anne
