[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the same Painted Lady Butterfly from my previous post. Both images were taken just minutes apart, but the wings were completely closed in this shot and partially open in the previous.

The big difference in color is due to the fact that the sun, which was overhead created some back lighting in the first photo. This allowed the beautiful inner wing colors to bleed through. I think both effects are pretty and just wanted to show the difference.

Very nice photo. Nice colors! Did you try with smaller aperture?

Ron, the American version of Painted Lady is significantly different from the one we find here in India. However, it is quite evident that your species is far better looking than ours.
What a technically perfect capture, this!
The colors on its closed wings really make my day.
The composition with the pink flower is also mind-blowing in its aesthetic appeal.
Thanks for sharing this gem of an image.

Ron, what you demonstrate here is that colors in the wings are formed by photonics effects (scattering of light) and not absorption as in dyes.

Ciao Ron, great macro of lovely Vanessa virginiana, American Painted Lady, fantastic colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Wow! What a beautiful set of colors to show off the butterfly and flower! it looks almost as if we are looking at something lit with neon lights. Technically perfect sharp, enough DOF to show us the subject and blur the background. Great work!
