[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is another of the birds rescued by the Virginia Nature Conservancy. Its such a beautiful bird I thought it would be nice to share this picture even though not captured in the wild.

It is the smallest of the North American Raptors. The male is more colorful than the female. The prey on small animals like mice and also small birds. For reasons not understood, the population in the Eastern US is declining rapidly

Hello Alan,
Even though this is a captive bird I have to give you credit for photographing it so well. I used to see these gorgeous falcons a lot as a boy, but as you already eluded to, it is declining in population. I still occasionally see them in Amish country sitting on service lines along the roadsides.
They are beautiful birds as your image clearly shows. I hope their numbers will once again rise so future generations will be able to view these attractive birds in the wild. TFS.
