[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Scarlet Ibis derives its color through the ingestion of carotene present in some of its food such as Fiddler and Aratus crabs, shrimp, algae and aquatic insects. The black primary feather pigment is thought to give extra strength to the wing tip. The long legs are useful for wading in marshy ground, mud flats and mangrove stands.
Scarlet Ibis are long-lived - up to 18 years in captivity. Ibis are considered adults when they are about 2 years old- by this time they have gained their bright red colour. They follow an elaborate courtship and usually pair for life.
Taken at the Cincinnati Zoo. PP cropped, BG blurred, USM.

Wow Greg, this looks so good. Such a delicate looking bird. especially with her on the tree and pecking ever so daintily at her feathers. Beautifully shown, thank you.
Janice

Lovely shot!
A bit noisy I think, but apart from that everyting is perfect here.
I like it a lot.

An outstanding shot on this Scarlet! Your exposure here looks to be spot on. The colors are very well saturated and beautiful in this soft light. Nice sharp detail with perfect control on the DOF. Very well done! Hoping to get some shots for my portfolio of one of these beauties.

Hi Greg, Beautifully clear and sharp photo of this scarlet ibis. We saw a lot of these at Singapore bird park but this specimen seems larger. TFS. Murray.

That seems to be the problem with this site. The picture has been smoothed by way of noise reduction to the point that it becomes almost unviewable. To call this magnifuque is absurd. It's a bad photograph...period.

Excellent colours and detail. Background is perfect and I like the pose very much.
