[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The beautiful Aruba Island Rattlesnake (Crotalus unicolor) is restricted to the small island of Aruba, off the coast of Venezuela. It is found in the scrubby desert that is native to the island.

It is critically endangered in the wild due to the development of the island for tourism. Although they can still be found in the remaining desert scrub, development pressures are rapidly reducing that scrub to nothing.

And unfortunately, rattlesnakes and tourists aren't a good mix. Rattlesnakes lose out, and this species is probably going to become extinct in the wild during our lifetimes. It is protected from export, but there are no protections against killing it or developing the remaining few hectares of scrub on the island.

It is easy to keep and breed in captivity, and it is almost certain that more unicolor are in captivity today than exist in the wild - a rather sad state of affairs.

Shot taken through glass at the San Antonio Zoo.

Hi Chris !

Wonderful ! ...but frightening !!! Very nice quality with you Tamron 90 mm ! Well done !

Excellent head shot of this aruba slithering snake, very sad about the snakes future, it's a pity they dont take steps preserving some land for these cool snakes. :)

Wonderful rattlesnake close-up!
