Clark's Grebes:
(Podilymbus species). Grebes are living fossils, their 80-million year evolution clearly evident in the fossil record. They are not closely related to any other living birds. However, like loons, they are divers that spend most of their time in the water, and their toes are lobed and set far back on the body, making them awkward on land. They nest in floating patches of vegetation, make loud cackling calls, and can gradually sink beneath the water’s surface. Grebes are migratory birds that are notoriously poor at flying. At a distance they can appear to be ducks, but a closer look reveals their pointed bills, tailless appearance, and erect narrow necks and heads. Clark’s Grebe (Aechmorphorus clarkii). The Clarks’ and Western Grebes were considered a single species for many years, but are now differentiated as two separate species, and while the two breed in the same areas, the two species have never been observed to mate with each other. The Western Grebe is about 28” in length with a very long, slender neck. It is black and white with a light yellow bill. The Clark’s has more white around the eye and on the neck and sides, as well as a bright orange-yellow bill.

Hi Scott,
Nice shot, nice low POV and good DOF and detail. Nice colours, the image is a little small though?
Regards,
Adrian

Hi Scott

I would have liked to see this image bigger because it look like you have nailed this guy and his reflection really well. :-)
