[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On the way back from the beach one late afternoon, we walked through a patch of tall marsh reeds. A stand of dried thistle blooms attracted my eye. The plant silhouetted in the background is the wild anise.

Of more than 200 kinds of thistle distributed over the northern hemisphere, there are about 75 in the United States, including some 50 in the west and southwest.

Thistles are the armored knights of the vegetable kingdom. Their
leaves, bristling with needle-sharp spines, protect them from grazing
and browsing animals, so that in closely cropped pastures we
commonly see tall thistles standing here and there. A burro or donkey,
however, will nip off the flower heads and chew them with relish. Bumblebees and butterflies, which have long tongues, feast on the
nectar at the base of those tubular flowers.

Hello Manyee,

You're right; this flower is still very beautiful. The composition is pleasing and the focus is sharp. Nice exposure and good colors. Well done & TFS!

Hi Manyee,
I just like the golden look of the dead thislte and the silverish look of it seeds. The flash illuminated it peferctly. Also great to see that the wind is starting to do its work and transport the seeds for next year.

Hello Manyee,
this is very nice capture with very nice colours, lighting and sharpness/POV. Very good composition. Thank you for posting.

Hello Manyee,
I agree with Pieter, it retains it's beauty even in this condition. Amazing detail in this photo, great light and beautiful colours with tones of silver and gold. I normally don't like a lot of flash but this has worked really well against the somewhat gloomy background. I can see why it caught your eye, a lovely shot.

You acheived beautiful exposure on your thistles, ManYee, and the flas made them even more special.

Evelynn : )

Nice shot, I think it was with the flash! Good effect!

Hello Manyee!
What a simple but very atractive composition! Very good DOF and POV. BG is also very interesting. This photo is another example that good idea is a half of success to take a very nice photo!
