Rocky Mountain Elk : Cervus elaphus nelsoni

I took this quite late in the evening in Grand Teton National Park. In the few days we spent there in September, we had rain, wind, glorious sunshine and even snow. Watching snow pile up on our canoe in the evening didn't bode well, but the following day we had warm, clear boating weather. Never a dull moment.

I want to wish each of you a wonderful holiday season. We are leaving (escaping incessant Oregon rain) for a couple of weeks. We are heading south, where it seems they are also getting rain...but at least it will be different...and hopefully less of it and more photo ops.

Thank you for sharing your part of the world with me this past year. I posted my first image on December 27 of last year. In the year since I have made new friends, and thanks to them I have learned so much about photography, the world and YOU! Thank you for all the thoughtful advice and encouragement. It has meant an awful lot to me! I'm looking forward to viewing your galleries on my return.

Happy New Year to one and all!

Hi Evelynn,
Thank you for sharing a very nice shot of a regal animal in an early season snow storm. Looks like big wet flakes. By the focal length you were close to him. Have a safe and happy holiday season and hope to see your new postings when you return. Rick

Gee Evelynn, you might want to give your sensor a good cleaning...lotsa whitish dust spots!
Hey you're still gonna post a few yet this year aren't you?

Hi Evelynn

This is a true splendor!!! What an amazing photo!
I really love the posture of this elk here, the POV from where you took this (perfect paralel with the subject) and the heavy snow falling just give it a whole new, higher level. It's like it's taken from a fairy-tale! :)
Simply wonderful composition!
I would also like to wish you Happy Holidays and a Great New Year, plus a lot of fun on your trip :)
Cheers adn TFS

Hi Evelynn,
A fine wintry shot in the autumn, while we have autumn weather in what should be winter!
This image has a super pose and is well presented. The peppering with snow is great and is an excellent way of covering any noise at 800 ISO.
Enjoy your trip south and the Festive Season!
TFS, Ivan

Una escena casi irreal Evelynn con todo el sentido festivo de su título.
Primorosa imagen con excelente oportunismo en el disparo y un gran post procesado.
Felicidades para ti también mi amiga.
Mis mejores deseos... Ricardo

An almost unreal scene Evelynn with the whole festival sense of their title.
Exquisite image with excellent opportunism in the shot and a great post processed.
Happiness for you too my friend.

Hi Evelynn,
What a beautiful pose. As if you took it from the Jaegermeister bottle. :) Just love the combination of the snow, the green foilage and the faded trees in the distance with the awesome looking Elk. What a moment!
TFS,
Niek

Nicely done, Evelynn. A great shot. Nice close up of a remarkable animal. The snow add a dramatic touch. And, like Steve, I like the low angle. The most remarkable part is the restraint you showed in not posting it until now.

Wow Evelynn! What a beautiful animal standing like that, looking up at the falling snow... and no doubt thinking that, "Oh dear, it's that time of year again and the food will be disappearing soon!!!"
Wonderful capture, well done,
Best regards, and wishing you a Happy New Year.
