Blue Heron Portrait
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Taken at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands (background).|
This heron was up on a hill away from the water perhaps looking for a nesting ground. Blue Herons are a large American heron (Ardea herodias) having blue-gray plumage and a predominantly white head with a dark crest.
The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is located near Huntington Beach, California off the Pacific Coast Highway. The reserve is a 1200 acre (480 hectare) area. It can be the temporary home of snowy egrets, black skimmers, great egrets, green herons, plovers, least terns and many other shorebirds. The reserve was recently restored and has a much greater influx of ocean water.

I like the sharpness together with the beautifully blurred background. Nice light as well..
Beautiful shot, Ken. The eye is razor sharp and the bokeh is excellent.
Excellent capture of this Grey Heron. The sharpness and dof is very good with lots of details in the Heron and a well blurred background to set him off nicely. The composion is spot on - just after the book. - Well done.
