Afternoon All

Not much to talk about just got back from a business trip late last night. The weather has turned for the worse so it looks like the wife and I will be home bound; there is even some chance for significant snow this week and next.

With that said here is a shot a took several days ago, I am pleased with this shot as it appears to me anyways that I am getting better at getting the whites in on this bird. It is so easy to blow the exposure on just that one section above his breast. There is definitely a need to under expose in some cases, and have been doing this by adjusting the Shutter and Aperture to take in less light. Once this is accomplished I can make adjustments in the RAW editor that picks the detail back out and lets me control the contrast. Ok, back to work, see you all out on the site!

4-5" (10-13 cm). Similar to more northern Black-capped Chickadee, but feathers of folded wing usually show less white edging; lower edge of black bib more sharply defined than that of Black-capped. Best identified by voice and range.

Deciduous woodlands and residential areas.

6-8 white eggs, lightly speckled with brown, placed in a cavity in a rotten stub or birdhouse lined with feathers, grass, and plant down.

Resident from southeastern Kansas and central New Jersey south to Texas, Gulf Coast, and central Florida.

A buzzy chickadee-dee-dee-dee, higher pitched and faster than that of the Black-capped Chickadee; song has 4 whistled notes, see-dee, see-dee, with a downward inflection, rather than the 2- or 3-noted song of the Black-capped.

Nice one again, Greg!
Fine diagonal comp and great sharpness and BG. Unusual reflection gives the eye of this Carolina Chickadee almost a glazed appearance, otherwise perfect!
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Gregory.
Next your brilliant bird picture with amazing diagonal composition and beautiful photo model. POV and DOF are really outstanding: sharpness and details of the bird and twig are perfect as well as the blurriness and colour tone of the BG. Lighting is delicate and impressive at high level. Cropping and framing are done skillfully. Bravo, perfect done and TFS.

Hola Gregory,
La composición es magnífica, la luz y nitidez son extraordinarias, enhorabuena. Saludos

Hello Greg,
I like the way you compose your shots -- giving a lot of thought to the placement of the subject.
This is yet another beautiful bird image from you.
The simplicity of your frames also contributes a great deal in highlighting the subjects.
Thanks and with warm regards,

Hi Gregory,
Very well composed and balanced composition on a beautifully blurred background. The little chickadee is just too cute, the way it looks lets hearts melt.
Best regards

Hi Gregory,
As pleasant as always to look at your work.
I like this composition, with the wider side of the branch at the top of the picture, but the position of the bird compensates the balance of the overall elements on it.
Details, exposure and focus on the bird are the right ones.
Congratulations, thanks for share and kind regards,

Hello Gregory,
Excellent shot. Very good composition and colors. Amazing sharpness, the OOF BG does show of this composition so well without any distractions.

All I can say is WOW ! The chickadee against that beautiful, unbusy, soft background is fantastic; even the shade of green compliments the bird's color.

Lovely work of art. You work at getting these shots and it shows, can I come to your house for lessons?
