A majestic Wedge-tailed Eagle (Aquila audax) captured from Evans lookout above Lake Wyangla. The lookout is a couple of hundred metres above the lake and provided a perfect vantage point to watch (and photograph)this eagle as it rapidly ascended on an early morning thermal.
The Wedge-tailed eagle is one of the largest of the world’s raptors with females having a wingspan of up to 2.8 metres and weigh up to 4.2 kg.
This is a young adult; the pale nape will become darker as the bird ages. Older birds are almost entirely very dark brown to black.
They are reasonably common and found throughout the Australian continent, even in the treeless plains of the central deserts. Like most large raptors, they are scavengers and rarely hunt actively for prey.

Thanks for looking

Hi Chris!

Yes, majestic is probably best word to describe look of this proud bird. Very calm mood, predator soaring on blue sky BG, but ready for attack in split second. Pose and POV are just perfect.

Hello Chris,
A great POV and very well composed. Good exposure with nice detail retained on the underside..Like that birds pose alot too :)
Very well done.

Hello Chris,
Great in-flight capture of a juvenile Wedge-tailed Eagle. Nice sharpness, superb POV, just the right exposure and beautifully presented against a fine blue sky.
I only saw one othese once in NSW and that was ata distance, so its nice to see one closer like this.
Well done and TFS!
