This will be my last posting for a few days as I am having a short break (Again! I hear you say).

I took this shot on a sunset flight over the Ayers Rock (Uluru), Olgas (Kata Tuja) and Lake Amadeus region. The shot shows a promontory and small island - which are now surrounded by salt. The lines in the salt show the differing levels as the water evaporated.

Lake Amadeus is a huge salt lake in the area of Uluru (Ayers Rock), located in the SW corner of Australia's Northern Territory. Due to the aridity of the area, it is usually almost totally dry. In times of sufficient rainfall, it is part of an east-flowing drainage system that eventually connects to the Finke River.

Nearby landmarks are: Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (Olga Rocks) and Mount Conner.

It was discovered by the explorer Ernest Giles, who had originally intended to honour his benefactor Baron Ferdinand von Mueller with the eponym Lake Ferdinand. However Mueller prevailed upon Giles to instead honour King Amadeus of Spain, who had previously bestowed honour on him.

Lake Amadeus is 180km long and 10km wide, making it the largest salt lake in the Northern Territory. It contains up to 600 million tonnes of salt, however harvesting it has not proved viable due to its remote location.

Hello James,
Sorry for not being able to visit TN as much as I want to. Firstly, I'm without a net connection; I moved to a new house and it is taking the ISP people very long to give me one. Secondly, work too is keeping me a bit too busy.
This aerial view of the lake is very impressive. Your detailed note gives a deep insight into the characteristics of this desolate place.
Have a wonderful break and TFS.

Hi James

No "again" from me...i know a nice break comes in handy from time to time :)
This is a splendid shot from above and one that shows this lovely water and land formation beautifully.
The colors here are terrific as you picked a superb moment here: the sunset.
It's so interesting to see the way water made made it way here and the lines it left by doing that.
Splendid wrok!

Bravo and TFS

Lovely landscape shot. Like the great depth to this image. A great shot.
Best wishes,

Hello James,
this is a good size photo to show the huge salt lake in precise details in the area!
The texture and pattern of the lake is so beautifully captured! especially the lighting from an angle!
good shot and thanks for sharing
have a good break, my friend!
cheers
Tony

Hi James,
These inflight POV do give landscapes a whole different feel. It looses part of the depth in a view, but gains on th perspective. I have always enjoyed the documentaries where they took you along a flight across a stunning landscape. It shows you patterns and shapes you would not see from ground level. Your photo is great evidence of this aspect. One would never have seen the shape of this island and coastline from ground level. It gives the entire photo a abstract feel.
TFS and have fun on your trip.

Hi James.
I have never selected such POV and I think I will never select such POV. Great interesting picture with attractive subject and wonderful lights, darks and colours. Pleasant to eyes curve, colour spots, warm yellow-brown tones and so on. Bravo and TFS. We are waiting for your return.
Alexei.

Hi James,
Neat shot, I like the curves lines of the salt and the island in the middle..the bright color of land speckled by trees. It does look like a very remote area...very interesting about it being a salt water lake, I didn't know there was one down there. OH the things I learn here! TFS this awesome image.

Hi James!

I almost missed this one! Now I'm happy to discover it. Although the aerial view brings down the depth, the picture pleases by the amazing shapes and the color tones that provide an abstract effect. The overall atmosphere is appeasing and evokes the pleasure of flying...

I also appreciate the very detailed and interesting notes.

Kind Regards

Markus
