I uploaded this image on TrekEarth and have since discovered TrekNature, and I would like to share it here because I think this is the more appropriate location. This is an image of a tawny frog mouth owl. Though not actually an owl, they are active at night and spend their days perched on tree branches. When resting on old branches they are nearly impossible to spot. Luckily for me, this frog mouth had chosen a rather poor hiding spot on this palm tree, making him very easy to pick out. We were in this area for the entire day and the frog mouth did not move from this location.

Hi Matthew

A lovely capture of this Tawny Frogmouth perched in the crown of the Tree Fern. As usual with the upward posture the head is held erect so one cannot see the birds face properly. That is not such a big deal as it is a wonder one can see the bird at all because these ones are masters of disguise and it is only because it is slightly out of place in this tree fern that it was so easily noticeable. Well spotted and presented.

Good work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

PS. Just as a matter of interest you might want to take a look at this thread that I've placed on the forum some time back - New Theme - with a challenge.

Hi Matthew
It is unusual to see the Tawny frogmouth in a tree fern and he obviously wasn't concerned about safety that day. No hope of any camouflage! Very good composition and pose. TFS
