The Orange Ringlet (Hypocysta adiante) is a small butterfly from the subfamily Satyrinae. They have a wingspan of 28 – 32 mm and are found through coastal eastern Australia and the tropical north. They are weak flyers and stick close to the ground in the open woodlands they inhabit. The males have favourite perches such as prominent rocks and fallen branches on which they sit waiting for females to fly by. Several generations are completed annually and they can be found in any month in the northern part of their range, while in the south they become very rare during winter. Larval food plants are grasses from the Poaceae family.

Hello Chris,
A nice macro of the Orange Ringlet. I have taken the Common Brown but this species is new to me.
Great POV and composition on the stone with fine sharpness where it matters.

Hello Chris,
A nice image of this little fellow, good detail and colour, good depth of field to have pretty much everything in focus. I think the white spot in the BG and the out of focus rock to the right are a little distracting, a tighter crop would go a long way to relieving that and also show us a little more detail. Good image though.
Regards,
Adrian

Hello Chris,
another candidate for my Thema on Satyrinae and a very nice and sharp picture of this delicate Satyrine butterfly.
In particular, I like the natural colours and the natural environment.
Best wishes around the globe,
Peter
