Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae)

Recently the weather has been so dark and dull that chances of photography are very limited and I have instead been spending time on loading my photos on this site here to have several galleries along with mine on TN.
I came across this one taken in a western suburb of Sydney.

The Kookaburra is a common species in Eastern Australia and in the SW. It is the largest species of kingfisher in the world.

It can be seen in open forest, parks and suburban areas. It feeds on reptiles and insects and spends time on posts and power lines looking for prey. Its name refers to the loud ‘koo-ka-ka-ka-ka’ warning call.

I took this with the Canon 2S IS compact at a distance of about 10 meters (33 ft). The image was moderately cropped and after size reduction it was slightly sharpened.

Hello Ivan!

Well captured sentinel on road sign. Bird looks rather tired and dirty. Interesting pose and nice composition of blue colours on plumage and sign. Weather was bad, but your picture is quite good.

Hi Ivan,

Simpatico composition, and a bird very assorted with the tag road. Very nice.

All the best, Cezar T.

not a clear shot and composition is too imbalance

Hi Ivan.
I also dreamed to take something similar. It is very attractive subject and combination of nature and display of civilization. Especially it is pleasant that it was so fine bird. As usual and despite of the using camera you have produced shot of extreme quality. All features of the scene are reflected with highest exactness and skill. Bravo. Perfect work in far country. My best wishes and have a good week.
Alexei.

Best regards Siggi

god morgan Ivan
what a lovely and great capture for famous Kookaburra on crossroad plate. I also visit your links and I saw great photographes in there. I added its link my favourite.
Kookaburras are very beautiful birds, I know them only from documentary films and books. They are similar to Kingfishers, with long and huge beak and very short and tiny feet. Both of them have colorful plumage. So, they are also lovely.
Thanks for showing us this beauty. have a wonderful day, my friend

By the way, i read your reply to Tariq. i think he has mental problems. Do not mind! Every time we can meet such defective peoples.

Hi Ivan,

nice picture from the Kookaburra,
Good pov and sharpness, beautiful colours.

Ciao Ivan, splendid bird in nice pose, as a sentinel on signal, good details and wonderful sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

I find the posture of this Kookaburra you shot way back in Australia somewhat comic, Ivan :).
It seems to be camera shy and is trying to turn its face away.
Its perch also tells its own story.
Good snapshot with the compact camera.
Thanks and regards.
Ram

Hello Ivan

Cute photo, the kookaburra looks like it is reading the sign! I like the sharpness and details of the feathers.

Hi Ivan,
cheerfully lovely, well detailed, well composed presentation of this merry chap. Merry merry king of the bush is he ... :)
Also nice to see some advertising for car brands here on TN in those days when not only nature but also car makers are in deep trouble ;)
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter

It is a whimsical shot Ivan...and one can project many meanings onto some such as these..I wonder at what you might have been thinking at the time...might be fun to know...hey tell your lovely wife to stop pouting and come back and play teh game...we all miss her...You two are joined at the hip as my wife and I!

Hi Ivan, I like to see these noisy birds, in the bush and in photographs such as this which is particularly sharp and clear. TFS. Murray
PS Tks also for ID on the Indo bird.

Hello Ivan,
Very well captured details of largest species of kingfisher in the world. Excellent POV & the pose of the bird which is apparently trying to read the road sign. TFS

Hi Ivan,
thank you so much for this wonderful bird.
I had a shot of this guy here some weeks ago - but I captured it not in free nature ...
So I'm happy to see it free - sitting on the nice sight ;-) A lovely shot, excellent quality, I like it very much, thanks
