[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The three species of Currawongs are part of a small family (Artamidae) which also contains the Australian magpie and butcherbirds. They are all medium sized birds, in mostly black and white plumage, and renown for raiding small bird nests. The Grey Currawong is native from the south of Australia, and is the only Currawong in Western Australia. It is characteristic of its genus, with a black body, white tail tip and striking yellow eyes. This one belongs to a resident pair of my block but has only one leg which explains its slight unbalanced posture. They do not become as tame as the Australian magpie but have become well enough used to us to come to our bird feeder everyday. |
