[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is an unusual portrait of an Australian pelican - Pelicanus Conspicillatus.
The best description of these wondrous birds is that of the poet Ogden Nash:
A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His bill can hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week;
But I'm damned if I can see how the helican.
(PS: just learned this is the work of a Dixon Merritt - whoever he is - rather than the more famous Nash)
There was a gentle rain falling (note the raindrops on the feathers)and the pelicans were lethargic so I sat within a few feet of them and had a photographic orgy.
Post-processing included burning the white feathers a little which brought out the gentle pink in his feathers.

What a funny note...fabulous portrait, John! It would seem that the feathers would be stabbing it in the eye, a bit painful you would think! Well seen and thanks for sharing.

Very interesting shot indeed, John.
When I saw the thumbnail, I looked and looked, trying to figure out what the picture was about.
