[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Shot of a flowering Hedychium Gardnerianum, commonly call a Ginger Lily, in full bloom, mid-afternoon...
This plant is originally from the Himalayas and is a perennial herb to about 2m high, which forms large clumps over time. Leaves are long and broadly strap-like to 40 cm long by 15cm wide, glossy and pale to dark green, arranged alternately on a pithy stem. Flowers are pleasantly fragrant, cream to yellow, with long red stamens. The fruit is a thin-walled capsule, with an orange inner surface. The seeds are bright red and shiny.

Hi Joffre, this is a good showing of the Ginger plant. We have them in NZ and they are considered BIG pests here. Once they take hold their large roots just grow and grow, under and over the land. I love the scent of them, and they do look good in a vaase. But they only grow in the wild here now, and they are slowly being cut out - hopefully,
