Brown Clipper Butterfly

This is a Brown Clipper Butterfly. It is a bit old and ragged, but still looks a beauty. I have posted a few photos of this popular butterfly, and you can see them here and here.

So now I want to talk about:

What is a butterfly?
Butterflies belong to the class Insecta.

With around one million named species and perhaps many more unnamed, insects account for a great majority of the species of animals on earth.

Butterflies are in the order of insects called Lepidoptera.
With Lepidoptera is derived from the Latin word "lepido" which means scale + "ptera" which means wing. Butterflies have a head, thorax, abdomen, two antennae, six legs and a coiled proboscis for drinking liquids such as flower nectar. Butterflies have four wings that are usually covered by colored scales.

Butterflies are very important in our world.
There are more than 20,000 different kinds of butterflies in the world.
With the majority being found in tropical environments. Butterflies are important as plant pollinators and as food for other animals (birds, mammals, spiders, and other insects). Butterflies are also very sensitive to changes in the environment, and help warn us about unhealthy changes that are taking place

Saludos... Ricardo

Nice capture Janice, with clarity and the detail of those deteriorated wings, possibly for the wind and the passs of time.
Good DOF and coloring, although personally, the framing seems something symmetrical... perhaps a slight rotation has optimized the composition, but it is only a point of view.
Greetings... Ricardo

Hi Janice,
Yes this one is way past his prime, but the beauty is still there. I love butterflies for the colors and intricate patterns and detail. It comes out well in your shot here. A lot of days I feel like that butterfly looks. You are spot on with the exposure here. Very nice!

Good morning Janice,
Just time for a quick visit.
Nice capture. enjoy the rest of the week.

Hello Janice,

What an amazing picture of this great butterfly you are offering today! It should be a veteran: damaged but alive! I like the nice green blurry bg which compliments so well the insect (even the antennas). Great pov and position of the butterfly! I'm just wandering that using a aperture of f8.0 instead of f6.3 you could have get maybe the 2 wings in focus... Great picture of a butterfly I didn't know until today! TFS,

Michel
