[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A yellow-eyd penguin, or hoiho - Megadytes antipodes - chick. One of the world's rarest penguins the hoiho is found only in New Zealand - on the South Island, Stewart Island & the sub-antrctic islands. On the South Island mainland, since European settlement, its habitat has been threatened by the clearance of coastal forest where these penguins like to nest. They are also the world's third largest penguin. This young bird, still with down on its head, has just feed from a parent bird, having thrust its head well into the parent's mouth to catch a meal of regurgitated fish - hence the rather messy appearance around its beak. When the chick is a year old, it will moult and take on the yellow strip and yellow eye which gives the bird its English name. Hoiho, the Maori name imitates the call of the bird.

He needs a napkin. What a unique bird. You have captured all the detail and colour the chick has to offer thru great focus and POV.
