|Before getting to Otago I read there was the northernmost penguin colony there. Now, I've always been fascinated by penguins. I even remember being jealous of a woman in a photography club who had returned from a trip to Antarctica with photos of penguins. So here was my chance.|
Turns out you observe these penguins from blinds. We had my daughter with us (she was 6 months old at the time) and everyone in the blind had this "Oh no, I've travelled all the way here to see a penguin, and this screeming kid is going to ruin it for us..." Anyway, the guide saw their look and told them that the penguins wouldn't be scared off by the sound of a baby crying.) Anyway, my daughter hardly ever cried anyway, and didn't here, so I don't know if it's true. But here a shot I got off of a penguin in its natural habitat...
This is a scan of a 35mm print. PP consisted of a tight crop, contrast adjustment, and a sharpen.

la photo n'est pas parfaite mais un pinguoin sur l'herbe cela vaut deux points.

I have been there too and loved it! Check my portfolio for the pictures. Did you also walk through trenches to check out the penquins?
Too bad you can't see the eye of the bird.
