Hello to my TN friends,
I need those butterfly experts to confirm this name is correct or is the name of Morpho peleides! prepare to change the name if I am wrong!
Today I drove 2 hours to Thames from Auckland with my wife to spend a day out on Father's day! weather was not preferable for landscape so we landed in the Butterfly garden! A real tortured with the heat from the warm butterfly house with sweat from head to toe just waited patiently for a good shot! and the vapour on the camera lens, pretty frustrated and nearly lost all the patient I got!
This is not a good shot and correct me if the name is wrong!
Here I like to thank you Janice Dunn for giving me the address of the Butterfly Garden in Thames!
Have a wonderful week ahead!
best regards to everyone!

Hello Tony,
We are neighbours this time, both with butterflies.
I can confirm that this is a Giant Owl Butterfly (Caligo eurilochus) and though related to morphos it is not M. peleides.
Nice close macro showing the closed-wing details of the body and head in a pleasing composition.
This should inspire you to look for wild butterflies in the coming season, as there are some in NZ, even if not so many species. A good photographer like you should be able to make some fine captures at least as good as this one!

Hi Tony, today close neighbour:)
Perfectly focused and composed butterfly shot from you. An unusual picture but it proves that your great talent on the taking macro!
Many thanks for sharing this beauty my friend!

Perfect macro, Tony!
very well done!

Ah yes..you are into the season as well Tony..An interesting study in the combining of patterns with kinetic and latent natural energies...the patterns being very complex and being the focal point here as you do a close in and spot on sharp of both insect and perch. Well done..

Olá Tony,
que beleza de captura dessa mariposa, um bicho difícil, pois é bem arisco. Gostei da nitidez aqui, ficou ótima.
Parabéns e Abraço

Hi good friend Tony,
Outstanding close-up shot of this gorgeous looking butterfly. Very impressive sharpness and clear details on its wings and I like that big 'eye'. Very nice composition. Thanks for sharing this great image.

Hi Tony,
A nice capture of this Giant owl butterfly. Very well composed with sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Tony, dear friend
Our friend, Ivan already identified it. So, I also learnt its species. It is very beautiful butterfly with large spots. You captured it with a great focus, POV, composition.
I enjoy to see your great landscape or seascape shots, but also nice to see your great macros. Thanks for sharing, have a nice week.

Hi Tony!

What a good idea of the weather not to be good enough for landscape pictures. Oh, don't missunderstand me, not because I don't like them anymore, but because it made this beautiful butterfly picture possible. The particular point of view and the perfect focussing make it an outstanding picture. And it's nice to see something different from you for a change! Wonderful...

Kind regards

Hola My friend Tony.- Lovely Macro of this beautiful Butterfly. Nice details on wings and pose. Sorry for not visiting but I have been pretty busy last months.

Hi Tony.
Great close-up detail on the head and part under side of the wing. Nice POV to see this detail that on a full view of the butterfly you don't get to see face detail.

Ciao Tony, splendid Caligo with wonderful colors, great focus, fine details and excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hola Tony,
Excelente macro con gran nitidez donde se muestran muy bien los pequeños detalles de esta bella mariposa, excelente iluminación con un fondo agradable, saludos
José Ramón

Oh Tony - I did tell you that it was HOT. And I also said go to the Akld one first!! Akld doesn't have as many butterflies, but the room is airier and maybe not as hot.
My lens kept getting steamed up at Thames too. I did too - perspiration was dripping off me. But Thames has more butterflies.
I know it is the Owl butterfly. They seem to have quite a lot there.
Was it worth the trip??

Hello Tony. This is such a stunning tight framing of this butterfly. I like the compound eye and eyes on the wings. Sharp focus and excellent details. well done and TFS. Jusni

merhaba tony
beautiful butterfly and well close-up capture
i like composition, POV, colours and details

Hello Tony,

This is a very interesting macro and I am in doubt as to why it is called a Giant Owl Butterfly! Those imitation eyes must really intimidate any predators!!
I really like how the two different textures (the bark and the wing) are in such close contact for scrutiny and comparison.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Tony.
I have missed this a very impressive close-up. I like back POV, wonderful framing and tremendous DOF. You managed to get crisp sharp image of the butterfly and so attractive twig. Despite the light spots on a BG you have exposed image perfectly. Best regards and TS. Well done.
