Tremella lutescens
Witches Butter/Witches Butter Jelly

Species: Tremella lutescens Pers
Common Name: Witch's Butter
Found: Mixed Forest
Substrate: Rotting Wood
Spore: White
Height: 40 mm
Width: 35 mm
Season: Autumn
Edible: Yes

(from:Hidden Forest)

I'm not sure if this is the same fungi known as Tremella mesenterica but since Clives site(Hidden Forest)has only this one (& I happen to know that Clive is usually up with the latest names) I can only assume that this is the newest taxonomic handle for the jelly fungus commonly known as Witches Butter.
If anyone can confirm this I would be most interested to know .... Clive?

I didn't have to go far to find this one.
It was growing on a dead log straight beneath my kitchen window.
The dimesions differ a little from those in the Hidden Forest. This one was about 100mm across.

Hope you like it.
Thanks for looking.

Hello steve, this is interesting and good subject. I saw some of these in a forest in south but did not know about them. Nice interesting note. Ganesh

as usual amazing fongue, TFS Ori

Hey, Steve, could I have a blob of this delicious looking "Witches' Butter" for my toast??
With the given camera settings (which intrigue me), you have captured an extremely sharp image of this fungus. The colour too is very attractive. The impression is clearly 3D and magnificent by virtue of it.
TFS and regards.

Hi Steve

Well you usually do find butter in the kitchen, but I'm not sure kids would like this on the sandwitches :)
Good composition, exposure, DOF and sharpness. A very attractive species.

Hi Steve!
What a wonderful and clear "something"! ;> Of course I know what it is, but always when I see some species of such mushroom, I am thinking why there is something like that on the Earth :)
Beautiful sharpness, DOF and details. I like also reflections of its surface :)

Hi Steve,
Wonderful shot of this fungi which actually looks like jelly. Very interesting form and details and the bright yellow colour is so attractive. Fabulous work done inside the forest and you have handled the available lighting very skillfully. You are doing such a great job of showing these fungi from your part of the world. Excellent DOF, POV and composition. Thanks for sharing this fine image.

Hello Steve,

You have made a very fine photo with this fungi showing so well the jelly like structure of its body. Light has been used well showing nice reflection on fungi's body and rendering natural colors.

Thank you for sharing,

Nice capture,details are amazing...

Hello Steve,
I have not commented on this interesting Tremella. Your technique is very successful , only indirect light was admitted, giving the whole a golden glow. It's good that you tell us about unusual creatures like "Witches butter"!
Best regards
