Tonight I'm celebrating passing the 10,000 point milestone with a shot taken on the western shore of Lake Brunner (called Moana by the Maoris).
The trees you can see growing in the lake are Kahikatea, also known as White Pine.
Kahikatea is one of our native podocarps, and the tallest native tree in New Zealand, reaching heights of over 60 metres (200ft).
They often form dense stands in low lying swampy areas,in fact, much of the low lying area of the North Island was once Kahikatea swamp, but has been extensively drained for farmland, leaving only scattered thickets of forest.
The South Island,of course, still has lots of native forest, and Kahikatea swamps can be found around many of the coastal regions.
Much of Lake Brunner is still surrounded by native forest, and on the other side is developed farmland.

I hope you enjoy this view of a typical West Coast lake.

I'd also, once again, like to thank everyone who has shown an interest in my photographs of New zealands wild places and creatures, and taken the time to share your valuable comments with me.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers
Steve

Hi steve,
Congragulating you for achieving the milestone. The ripples and the branches of the tree protruding out of the water creates a nice and creative composition.Very well seen and captured as such compositions are not easily noticable. Moreover,I liked the peaceful influence of the shot on viewer.
Regards,
Ravish.

Hello Steve,
Congratulations on reaching 10,000 points! What a beautiful view across this swampy lake to the mountains beyond. It looks really wild and undisturbed by man. Beautiful colours and I like the ripples on the water reflecting the blue sky. Very well done!

Hi Steve,

Congratulations on reaching this milestone. Each point was well deserved. You are celebrating with a beautiful scene as we look across the lake to the lovely mountains. The ripples and reflections are marvelous. Here's to the next 10,000!

Jane

Hi Steve,

Congrats with your 10.000th. Great success. Just what Ravish said. A milestone. I must say: "Carry on my friend" A beautiful landscape photo. The lake (or is it a swamp) just surrounding with white pines. Colors a very natural and of course beautiful. Sharp with a great compo. POV and DOF are okè. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Steve
Congratulations :)
You have chosen beautiful picture to celebrate you anniversary.
Excellent colours and sharpness together with nice composition makes this picture wonderful.
I've noticed that the water seems to be very clear. Is it a cold lake with low productivity or that's just a season with so clear water or is ia so clean water in it?

Thanks for sharing
Ania

There is a similar but perhaps slower action going on in two places I have seen..The trees down and branches hanging in the water....they look so familiar to me but I have only seen them in flood time with fog and such...I truly like this one Steve....Hoping all is still well with you..I keep up with your videos as well and encourage others to do so as well!
Bob

hi Steve,

Congratulations on reaching this milestone Steve, though with your fine and varied shots giving us in other parts of the world an insight into the natural history of NZ, you deserve more than 10000 pts. You are a valuable contributor to TN.
A great view of this western lake on S. Island with a fine perspective with the rippled water providing a great FG. The trees look like they have had to struggle from too much water round the roots.
Cheers and here's to many more!
Ivan

Hi Steve again,

Sorry, I missed this one when You posted and wasn't able to send my hot congratulations in time. I wish You many more 10.000 points. :)

Wonderful place, fantastic shot, and as always, I enjoy seeing Your native subtropical flora. I truly hope to visit NZ once - or to be born to there in my next life. :) Technically: the water in the foreground is a little too much to my personal taste or composition technique, otherwise an excellent shot. Great colors, lights and atmosphere.

Tfs, this one and all the others of Your beautiful photo shots. I hope to see more of them in the next, let's say, 50 or more years. :)
Friendly regards, László
