Golden Pheasant

Chrysolophus pictus

(is also knowns as Golden cockbird or Yellow mutation)

Origin: Northwest China.

The Cockbird is arguably the most beautiful of pheasants, definitely the most spectacular in colouring. In breeding dispay both species circle the hens and drop their neck capes and display the barring there.

Almost identical to the Lady Amherst Pheasant in shape and characteristics, leg colouring in the golden is brown to yellow whereas the Amherst has grey legs.

Fertile crosses occur between the two but should be discouraged so as to keep the races pure. Hybrid birds generally have yellow legs.

A good breeding ratio is to run 1 Male to 3-5 hens.

Incubation is 23-24 days, with up to 11 eggs laid, generally 7-9.

First clutch can be raised under bantams but we let the hens sit on and raise the second clutch themselves.

Feeding : Grains, budgie seed, sunflower, Chicken pellets, kibbled maize, mealworms,Insects, Greenfoods.

Colour varieties available in N.Z.,
Yellow-golden and Black throated

Because this beautiful bird is in the very dark corner with only a bit of sunlight going through, I have increase a bit of the Saturation, but I can't make it more brighter... I hope you like it.

Sweety, shy and beautiful. I like the dark bg because of the contrast.
