Zosterops lateralis (Silvereye)

One of Australia's more common and delightful birds, the Silvereye is found throughout the southwest of Western Australia, from south of Exmouth to Esperance and across the Nullarbor. It does not survive in the arid interior. There would be few people who have not seen a Silvereye cheekily stealing food from outdoor picnics, whistling quietly in hedges or flocking noisily around bird baths. They are also infamously known by orcharders for their fondness of soft, ripe fruit!

The Silvereye is a distinctive bird. It is small (110-130 mm), olive grey-green in colour with a grey upper back and neck and white underneath. Its most obvious identifying mark is its namesake silver/white ring around its eyes.

Hi Pam

This one could be measured on the Richter scale for the cuteness factor. One can see
how the bird on the left wriggles its tail and wings out of shear enjoyment. It is a lovely
moment and well captured. Good POV for the action, excellent sharpness in the details,
nice colour rendition, lovely OOf and isolated BG, and a fine composition.

Have a wonderful 2010 and may you always have good light shining on your subjects.

Well done and TFS.

Cute composition, DOF is excellent - very nice photo.

Hello Pam,
Very nice photo of these Silvereyes. Splendid natural colours and good sharpness, details, POV and OOF BG.

Hi Pam,

Excellent shot on this pair of Silvereyes. Well composed and framed. Nice soft light and you kept nice sharp detail in the plumage with the slow shutter speed. Agree with Loot that the cutness factor is extremely high. Very well done!
