In the neighborhood of the Iguazu Waterfalls on the Argentina side I saw this bird. It stays most of the time on the ground.

The Chalk-browed Mockingbird (Mimus saturninus) is a bird found in most of Brazil, and parts of Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, and Suriname.
It has a large range (around 7,200,000 km˛), and although its population has not been thoroughly surveyed, it is believed to be large as it is reported as "common" in parts of its range. It has been classified as Least concern by the IUCN.

26 cm. Brownish above, conspicuous white eyebrow. More white on the tail than Tropical Mockingbird.

Voice: An excellent singer. A high, sharp (diagnostic) tschrip or tschic. It can also imitate the voice of other birds. (‘mimus’ means: that it imitates).

The Chalk-browed Mockingbird remains long time on the ground observing, while it balances his tail, moves with short runs in search of insects, worms and other small invertebrates that form their main food. Suddenly lifts both wings while walking on the ground.

Any (semi) open environment.

They have their own territory. The nest is a structure opened, deep, build of small branches, roots, in trees or shrubs.
The colour of the eggs is creamy with brown spots measure 28 x 20 mm.

Hi Peter,

I've never seen this Chalk-bowed Mockingbird - our Northern Mockingbird is quite different. Lovely looking bird with nice natural colors and good details. I would love to see him searching for insects.

Hello Peter,
Thanks for presenting a species of Mockingbird, the Chalk-browed, that is new to me.
