[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The Banded Sphinx Moth, (Eumorpha fasciatus fasciatus), wingspan 3 7/16 - 3 13/16 inches (8.7 - 9.6 cm), is found from northern Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, north through Central America (Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama) to southern California and southern Arizona, east to Texas, Mississippi, Florida and South Carolina.
With very strong migrating tendencies this moth can probably be found wherever there is sufficient moisture for its larval hosts.
Larvae are quite striking and pupate in subterranean burrows. The larvae are also highly variable in patterning
Adults nectar at various flowers in the dark.
I was at my parent’s weekend house and found one of these moths. I was looking through my camera to take a picture of it when I couldn’t understand what was happening because I was seeing double… another moth had come close! I waited for a minute and it went just next to the other. That’s when I took another picture.

Hi Mariel,
Welcome to the site (again...). Greatly composed, harmonic image. Probably sharpness could be increased a little as well as contrast, but the composition is so nice that the viewer's able to forget these small errors immediately. :) Good note - although I think it's unnecessary to copy the exif data of the image. It's uploaded automatically.
Thanks for sharing, best regards, László
Hello Mariel,

Hello Mariel,
Moth striking moth-species and you have seen luckily even with two specimen. Nice to have found them close to your parent's weekend house. Nature seems to be present there. With a choice of f/10 for example you could have reached even better sharpness.
Kind regards
Anne
