Padlock Bug or Little Bull Bug (Diloboderus abderus)


Black color or dark chestnut.
The overall length of the males oscillates between 21 and 22.5 mm and the one belonging to the females
catches up with 25 mm.
The head in the male, form the base of a great cephalic horn that leaves, bulk in your base tuning toward the extreme.

This horn is retract to the back. The female lacks this cephalic horn.
The male's pronotum shows the sinuous borders and a broad nodule finished off in two lobes rises forward at the heartland.
The depression of this nodule is occupied for an abundant pilosity of short and yellow hairs.
The female's pronotum is made round with the simple borders and lacks nodule.
Wing cases are broadder than lengths, with little visible stretch marks.

Its find in the majority of the departments of the country, however your place of dispersion is not known with precision.
The first adults appear in January and they can meet to intentions of March.
The bigger frequency is at the end of the month of January, agreeing with the connecting and the spawning.
To the 15 days of the setting, emerge larvae.
The larvae change to one second stadium between 30 and 35 days and these can stay in this stadium to
intentions of August.

The larvae of the third and last stadium can observe themselves as from the latter even mediated days of
April of November.
The status pupal ranges from October's intentions around the middle of December.
This status lasts for an average of 22 days and the adults to emerge from mid November, they remain buried in the camera pupa to your exit to the surface as from the first days of January.

The adults in general do not feed themselves, larvae, on the contrary, are very voracious and they are
always occult at galleries to as many as 20 in-depth cm. The acquaintances are like "caterpillar" or "white worms".

Damages: Diloboderus abderus is an insect considered plague, due to the damages that the larvae at natural
grasslands and various cultivations provoke.
That way the "caterpillar" attacks at her country: Natural fields, lawn, cereals, vegetables, alfalfa, corn, sorghum, potato, wheat, sunflower, barley, rye, beet, conventional grasslands, sugar cane, leguminous, graminaceous, oat, underbrush.

He buscado en la web Diloboderus abderus y me he quedado atónito al comprobar el origen de este portentoso animal: ¡antes era un gusano blanco! Un animal imponente muy bien presentado desde un punto de vista que magnifica su aspecto fuerte y fiero. Precioso color negro y una nitidez extrema. ¡Qué maravilla de transformación!

What a spectacular animal, Ricardo!
We have a similar species in Romania, but a lot smaller :) Yours is definately better.

Hello Ricardo,
very impressing close-up of a beetle that stands here like a monument! Reading your notes it comes as a surprise the beetle is no larger than about one inch in total length, it looks at least three times that size.
Outstandingly clear details all over the bulky beetle. Dark parts appear slightly too dark, at least on my monitor. They may reveal more details by some moderate lighting up.

Really some monster bug you captured here Ricardo. Excellent sharpness with so many details in this creature. Look at that horn he has - even a rhino would be green all over. Just imagine him in the size of a rhino. - Great capture.
