Blue-crowned Motmot (Momotus momota)

Here is another beauty from Brazil, one thing that I have noticed is how tame the wild birds are, away from any civilization you can get almost an arm's length of a bird like this Motmot.

Note:

Like most of the Coraciiformes, motmots nest in tunnels in banks, laying about three or four white eggs.

The Blue-crowned Motmot is 38-48 cm long, depending on race. Nominate M. m. momota weighs about 145 g. The tail is very long with a bare-shafted racket tip. The upperparts are green, shading to blue on the lower tail, and the underparts are green or rufous depending on subspecies.

In all except the entirely blue-crowned subspecies coeruliceps, the central crown is black and surrounded by a blue band. There is a black eyemask, and the nape of momota is chestnut. The call is a low owl-like ooo-doot, although there are variations depending on the subspecies involved.

Olá Everton,
Nice to see you back!
A fine capture of an old friend that I have seen many times on Trinidad but before digital photography!
An excellent shot in natural surroundings showing the Blue-crowned Motmot from a great lateral POV with fine sharpness and colours.
Thanks and all the best,
Ivan

Hello Everton,
I was walking behind this bird, in Brazil, but it was hiding itself between leaves. So I got a few photos of this beauty, but not good enough to present it here. This one is very good in beautiful colours and good sharpness. Nice pose and composition.
Regards,
Peter

Hello Everton,
The Blue-crowned Motmot is a favourite bird of mine after seeing it on Trinidad where it was quite shy. A fine capture showing its profile and beautifully coloured plumage.
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Hi Everton.
Very impressive and pictorial picture. I like wonderful leaf pattern, pleasant green colour palette and nicely detailed main hero of the shot. Despite the difficult light condition shot is exposed very well. Composition of the image is pot on. TFS and best regards.
