More than six years ago Iíve posted a photo of a Cattle Tyrant. This second time Iíve chosen for a pose where you see the Ďconcealedí orange crown patch on the head.

The Cattle Tyrant (Machetornis rixosa) is a species of bird in the Tyrannidae family. It is the only member of the genus Machetornis.
It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are pastureland and heavily degraded former forest. Common in semi open and agricultural areas.

19,5 cm.
Dark brown above with gray head. Throat whitish, below bright yellow. Tail narrowly tipped white. Long legs and a red iris. Often on the ground; perches on back of cattle.

Voice: ďa brief series of thin, squeaky notes; dawn song a short, repeated trilled whistle títeíteíree, tip- tip, tsi-tsip-tsilip-tsilip tsirrr or swee see dee.

Hi Peter,very nice capture of this specie not often seen on TN,so small and so nice,i like the elegant position and the usual excellent quality of details and colors.Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Peter,

Hope you are doing fine friend.What a shot! And that too in Pantanal, you are a lucky man and what is most important, the bird has been captured in a perfect pose with its plumage as colourful and realistic as if the bird would at any moment hop forward and would disappear. It is so lifelike.I was not acquainted with this bird and let me admit I am seeing it for the first time.Thanks a lot for sharing this beautiful bird. Take care.

warm regards/Abid

ha ha ha! This time has been a Peter who has won me hand with this rixosa Machetornis (whom we call " Picabuey " because they follow the cattle to feed on the parasites of your skin and leather. Although very abundant I have not gotten so far " capture " that satisfies me .
Your photography is admirable. Plus you 've captured the little retractable color orange red plume on top of her head looks like a thin orange line . Very similar to the plume has concealed the Pitangus sulphuratus .

Both birds unfold in what particular social occasions, such as territorial disputes between congeners or related courtship mating season activities.
It is very interesting evolutionary adaptation , since being sneaky not particularly attracts predators.

Congratulations, my friend " PeterZ "
if I ever get that picture
I 'm looking for ... I dedicate it , to you ;
