Yes, another NEW BIRDSPECIES FOR TN: The Green-barred Woodpecker.

The Green-barred Woodpecker, Chrysoptilus melanochloros is about 28 cm.
It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
Pantanal: It is fairly common and widespread in deciduous and gallery woodland, cerrado and clearings with scattered trees.

Sometimes placed in the genus Colaptes.
Above golden olive boldly barred black; forecrown black, hindcrown and malar stripe red (the latter black in female), face creamy whitish. Throat whitish streaked black; below yellowish with prominent black spotting.
The Campo Flicker is larger, shows no red on the crown, has bright yellow face and chest.

This fancy woodpecker is found singly or in pairs, foraging in trees and also on the ground (but less often on the ground than Campo Flicker); apparently feeds primarily on ants.

Most frequent call a loud ringing “kip!” often repeated several times; song, often given from a commanding perch, a faster series of “keeu” notes.

*Birds of Brazil: The Pantanal & Cerrado of Central Brazil by John A Gwynne, Robert S. Ridgely, Guy Tudor and Martha Argel.

Hi Peter.
Many years I wish to take woodpeckers but till now I cannot do it. You are luckier definitely. Superb picture with bright lights and vivid colours. Pose of the bird is very attractive and expressive. Massive tree branches and leaf patter as a BG look together perfectly. Details as well as pleasantness of the BG blurriness are great too. My compliments and TFS
