At this time of the year, it often rains here in Brazil, and the rain brings some big ants we here call “tanajura”. In an Indian language of one of the tribes from Brazil, the word “tanajura” means “ant that can be eaten”.

The bird above agrees with it…
_____

There is hardly a more diverse family of birds in the world than the Cuculidae. The variety ranges from parasitic songsters that lay their eggs in the nests of other birds (the classic Old World cuckoo) to large & rangy ground-feeders like the Guira Cuckoo of southern South America (above) to secretive beasts whose gurgling "waterbottle" calls can dominate an African landscape, such as the Burchell's Coucal. The biodiversity in this group may support the growing feeling among ornithologists that the wonderfully strange birds which comprise the current "family" should more properly separated into four to six different families. The relationship of the groups of these birds to each other is still very uncertain.

_____

It's a "bird of eastern tropical South America in the cuckoo family, Cuculidae. It is 40 cm (16 inches) long, with gray-brown streaked body, short frowsy crest, and a thinner bill than that of its close relatives, the anis. Guiras live in small flocks in grasslands and feed on grasshoppers and other insects. Guiras, like anis, give off a strong, pungent odour".

Hi Livio,
Thet is a geat looking shot. The colors and detail look great from the spot on exposure. Not only is the bird colorful and sharply detailed, but the red dirt mound against the green OOF backround also looks great.
Great job!
Scott

A real beauty, detail and exposure are on the mark and the pose is regal, nice work.

Long time no see! Another nice shot of this flying comedian ;) Nice combination of reds and greens here - is it just me, or is it a little oversaturated though? "King of the Castle!"
Best wishes, Nigel.

Lovely shot of this elegant bird on top of the termite mound - very sharp, good lighting and fantastic colours.
TFS, Ulla

Dear friend... I love the image of this so showy bird.

I like it a lot: composition, POV, DOF, sharpness, focus, color, lighting, notes

I like it: framing (lightly centered), background (something confused)

I dared to make a Workshop using Neat Image for to reduce something the effect of the bottom on the image.
Best regards... Ricardo

Hi Livio
Une belle prise. Comme à l'habitude, netteté et exposition sont au rendez-vous. Le fond sombre mais pas totalement foncé est idéal comme arrière-plan.
Belle performance, merci de nous la partager...JP

Hello Livio,
Stunning shot. Great details and colours. Interesting subject too.
Best greetings,

Olá Lívio,
linda foto.
Wagner.

Hi Livio
