[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Burrowing owls, "Athene cunicularia", are very common owls, but like all its cousins, they are always nice to watch. They nest in burrows, where they like to stay close to take care.

I was driving on the unpaved road to Tamanduá, Paraná, southern Brazil, when I found this cute one standing over the fence stage. I´ve got out the car to start playing and getting closer. This is the last picture, just before another car came to spoil my amusement...

Something I copy from my cousing Fabiano (fchede) to tell about it:

A small ground-dwelling Owl with a round head and no ear tufts. Length 21.6-28 cm (8.5-11 inches) Burrowing owls generally active at dusk and dawn, but sometimes at night also. They are highly terrestrial, and are often seen perched on a mound of dirt, telegraph or fence post - frequently on one foot. They feed on a wide variety of prey, changing food habits as location and time of year determine availability. Large arthropods, mainly beetles and grasshoppers, comprise a large portion of their diet. Small mammals, especially mice, rats, gophers, and ground squirrels, are also important food items. Burrowing Owls nest underground in abandoned burrows dug by mammals or if soil conditions allow they will dig their own burrows. They will also use man made nest boxes placed underground.

A funny pose for this burrowing owl, Jose.
He is leaning so far to one side, he looks kind of drunk. : )
Beautiful colors on him. I love those bronze feathers.

Nice image, the owl is in a good pose, and uses the space in the frame well. I think I'd be tempted to pull the curves up a little in PS though as it looks just a shade dark to me.

What a nice bird that you captured in a very nice and funny pose. He's looking right at you with those amazing eyes. Exposure, POV and composition are very good. I wonder 2 things though, is it the real background and did you used a noise reduction on the bird? Well seen and thanks!
