I guess this is a sparrow-hawk. In Portuguese, we call it "gavião". Please, feel free to supply any information regarding its identification.

To take this picture, I went to a place some two kilometers away from the town, where vultures and "gaviões" can be easily found. It’s there the trucks leave the trash they take in the urban area. Of course, the smell was not pleasant, but, despite that, I think it was worthwhile going there.

I guess I would have the chance to get closer, but when I took this shot I was on my motorcycle. When I was about to leave it to try to get closer to the bird, I slipped on the dusty ground. As soon as the bird heard my little fall, it went away...

Uma luz perfeita, a composiçao e a nitidez ta ben legal, como brilha o olho!! Parabens.

This is a beautiful image. So pure and clean background, with still wonderful colors shades is stunning. The bird couldn't be more in evidence, tack sharp, superb warm light, great pose on just the adequate branches top. Well, a great shot Livio!

Hi Livio, it looks like a common caracara, (Polyborus plancus) to me, it is common in south America and is the national bird of Mexico.
Nicely captured image, good detail and background, well taken.

Livio, beautiful shot. Your colours and details are stunning. I agree with what Jean Michel (Ornis) says, only I couldn't put it as well as he has. The colours are very special, and the composition spot on! Well done, and really good shot!

I see you have added a teleconverter to your camera, and Ihave to say I'm impressed.
This is a very nice image of the Crested Caracara. The composition is really great and the background highlights the bird very well. Great light and wonderfully exposed.

Hi Livio. Great picture. The light is wonderful. And I like the way you put the hawk way in the lower right corner, with all that space to fly into. Beautiful details on the bird against the dramatic cloudy sky. TFP. : )

This is a good looking hawk, I especially like the colors of his plumage. You have done well under the circumstances which you describe in this capture. Great composition and title.

I like very much the contrast of color between the sky and the bird. The composition and razorsharp details are great.
Good job !

This bird name is: Crested Caracara (Caracara cheriway), also known as the Northern Caracara. It is common bird from Falconidae family. Nice capture I saw many of them along Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil as well.
