The Greta Oto commonly called as the Glasswing Butterfly comes from Central America, and is found from Mexico to Panama. The tissues of its wings look like glass thus giving it the transparent wings. This is a natural mechanism of this butterfly. The opaque borders of its wings are dark brown sometimes tinted with red or orange, and its body is dark in color.
The translucent wings of the Glasswing Butterfly shimmer in the sunlight like polished panes of turquoise, orange, green, & red.
Nature can be much more surprising beautiful than photoshopped things we know. A butterfly with transparent wings is rare, real beautiful.

Lovely shot and as you rightly put a real beauty. Nice and sharp on the body but also soft on the wing tips.

Oi Enio

Hello Enio,

I have never seen a glass wing butterfly before. When I saw it on the thumbnails, I thought it was an artificial one with real glass wings!
The body and wings are remarkably sharp and it is interesting that you have shown its habitat too!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Bela foto ficou muito bem trabalhada e a nitidez espetacular parabéns por esta bela imagem.

Hi Enio

Good capture of this beautiful glasswing. I saw a similar species in Costa Rica, very hard to follow in the rainforest. Their transluscent wings makes them dissapear when flying.
Good POV, DOF and sharpness.

Nunca tinha visto nada parecido. É incrível a transparência das asas.
Ótima fotografia.
