Os lagartos ou sáurios (do latim científico Sauria, chamados ainda de Lacertilia) constituem uma vasta sub-ordem de répteis escamados. Se diferenciam das serpentes (suas parentes próximas) devido à presença de quatro patas, pálpebras nos olhos, e ouvidos externos. Apesar disso muitas espécies de lagartos, como os licranços perderam suas patas durante a evolução, se tornando externamente semelhantes às serpentes. Semelhantemente também existem lagartos sem pálpebras (da família Gekkonidae) ou sem ouvidos.
