[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was trying to get an action shot of a butterfly, and the settings of the camera were ready for that. I got some action, but I didn’t like any picture. Maybe someday I’ll post one of them as a missed shot.

Since my intention was to capture a butterfly flying, I had to increase speed to get nice details. I could have increased the depth of field, but by doing this I would not get light enough. I also could have increased ISO settings, but a high ISO in my camera (which goes up to ISO 400) produces “noisy” pictures. ISO 50 was used here.

Thus, although I didn’t enjoy the action shots, this “still” picture seemed enjoyable to me. Besides, for a long time I've been trying to shoot this species.

A little more of depth of field would have been better, mainly considering the size of the butterfly – it was a big one (its wingspan has approximately 12 centimeters). If it were smaller, maybe the depth of field here would have been enough.

Shooting this species is very difficult. They remain just some seconds on the flower. In most of the times, as soon as one gets focus, they fly away. Because of that, it’s necessary to “chase” them persistently before getting some picture. Besides that, while on the flower, they flap their wings too quickly. So if one wants to “freeze” the movement of the wings (and this was my intention), one needs a high speed.

That’s it. While I was taking the pictures, I could listen to a guy which was in a bar saying something about some beautiful blue butterflies. I intend to go back to the place soon and get information about the whereabouts of these butterflies…

Beautiful capture of this swallowtail butterfly. Good POV and nicely oof bg. For 2.8 the DOF is excellent.

Great picture os a swallowtail livio!

The colors are perfect and the detalis are good too.
Just one thing too bad that the flower is cut and we dont see all of the flower.

Hi Livio, excellent shot. Very good colors and sharpness. I got two very little nits, first; if we could see the whole flower, second; space on the left is a bit much IMO.

What I may say otherwise a perfect work?
But I cant understand how you can have a perfect DoF at F/2.8. I am missing sonthing here too!
