Hola Carlos,
a beautiful and sharp picture of a species which to my knowledge has not yet been shown before at TN.
The dark blue colour of the wings is nicely reproduced.
The species shown belongs to the
- genus: Actinote
- Nymphalidae, Acraeinae

Most probably it is a male of Actinote ozomene.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Carlos,
A perfect macro shot of this butterfly with excelent details, lighting and framing. Composition is also great. TFS and regards,
Bahadır

Hello Carlos,
I am sure Peter is right about this being a species from Actinote, which contains almost 50 species in Central and South America. I have a small book called Butteflies of South America by Bernard d'Abrera and on page 223 he illustrates a female of Actinote amida which looks remarkably similar to your pictured individual. He also illustrates a male of ozomene and this has a post-discal red band on the forewings as well as the red basal area. However, with such limited reference material, I cannot be 100% certain that your picture shows amida. Thanks for this fine picture of an unusual subject.
Alan

Hola Carlos,
Brenda

Nice background and frame - thanks

My little guide,"Mariposas Comunes de la Cordillera Central de Colombia" shows it as Actinote ozomene present in all three mountain ranges. Very nice photoand good for identification
