Another shot of this beautiful bird. While looking at the photos I found out that the rainbow-beard looks best in this one.

Photographed in Yanacocha Reserve in the Cloudforest on the slopes of Volcan Pichincha, at around 3500 mt altitude. This is the male.

Species Authority (DeLattre & Bourcier, 1846)

This species has a large range, with an estimated global Extent of Occurrence of 76,000 km². The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is not believed to approach the thresholds for the population size criterion of the IUCN Red List (i.e. less than 10,000 mature individuals in conjunction with appropriate decline rates and subpopulation qualifiers), even though the species is described as 'uncommon' in at least parts of its range (Stotz et al. 1996). Global population trends have not been quantified, but the species is not believed to approach the thresholds for the population decline criterion of the IUCN Red List (i.e. declining more than 30% in ten years or three generations). For these reasons, the species is evaluated as Least Concern.

This one is so cute! I love the glistening feathers and the colours are fabulous. I think the beard looks more like a smart red tie! Great capture!

Hi Selen.
Hes a hard case looking character, looks like he has a mow-hawke hair style. Lovely colours in his feathers, quite iridesent and amazing colour under his beak. The flash has helped bring the colour out, lovely image.

Nice shot of the Rainbow-crested Thornbill showing the male sharply in its colourful finery.
The busy leafy Bg is blurred enough to highlight the hummingbird.
