Brown Noddy
Anous stolidus galapagensis
Endemic subspecies (found only in Galapagos, but other closely related members of the species found elsewhere)

Image captured from a rocking boat.

Also known as Common Noddy. Dark brown, at times almost black, tern, neck and head greyer becoming almost white on forehead and top of head. The tail is wedge-shaped with small V-shaped notch in the end.

It feeds on small fish plucked from the surface of the sea, often in small flocks together with Blue-footed Boobies and pelicans.

It can frequently be sitting on the heads of fishing pelicans, waiting for small fry to leak out of the bill pouch.

The brown noddy breeds throughout the year on rock ledges and small caves in cliffs, generally in small colonies, often quite close to the water.

Courtship includes a lot of nodding and bowing, hence the common name. A single off-white blotched egg is laid on the bare rock. They breed less than once a year.

Muy buenas Selen
Gracias por presentarnos a esta ave rara y desconocida para mí, pero bien capturada. Que tiene pinta de ser entre gaviota y una paloma.
Un saludo

Hi Selen

A really great shot of the Noddy. There is good colour and detail in the feathers and the POV is good. The BG also helps to show the bird to advantage.

James

Hello Selen,
This is a beautiful bird you've captured very nicely here. In spite of the movement details are pretty sharp and colours clear. The Brown Noddies were common on the Coral islands of the Barrier Reef in Australia but this must be a subspecies.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hola Selen,
Si Jorge dice que es rara, pues tiene que serlo, la captura me parece excelente por los detalles tan nítidos que aporta, Saludos
José Ramón

Hello Selen
Would love to go to the Galapagos isles myself and shoot this bird and other beautiful wildlife overthere.
You must have had a great time overthere.
Lovely bird image this is.
Very good composition and wonderful feather details and catchlight in the eye.
I also like the way the bird does stand out against the BG very much.
Have a nice weekend.
Kindest regards, Harry

Hello Selen,
I didn't know that there was a sub-species of the Brown Noddy in the Galapagos Islands. It certainly looks paler and greyer than the noddies I have seen in Australia: In fact the difference looks so great it would surprise me if it gets the separate species status.
This is pretty sharp and well composed against the contrasting rock BG.

Hi Selen,
It's most impressive that you got the head so sharply in focus despite the moving boat. Interesting birdie too, esp. the feet. Selamlar,
