Altrought it looks like it was taken at night it was actually mid day when I took this shot, but it was underneath the canopy in a cloudy day, so I had to use the flash.

Hello Simon,
this butterfly is a relative of the well-known Monarch Butterfly. It's name is Ituna ilione and
it belongs to the family Danaidae.

This is a real beauty of a butterfly! I also like the surroundings you caught in this shot. Very nice to see the reflections of the wings and the interesting perspective created by the fern-plant(?). It would be nice to transfer the name of the butterfly( given by Peter) in your note.
