[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The guanaco (Lama guanicoe) is a camelid animal native to South America that stands between 107 and 122 centimeters (3.5 and 4 feet) at the shoulder and weighs about 90 kg (200 lb). The colour varies very little, ranging from a light brown to dark cinnamon and shading to white underneath. Guanacos have grey faces and small straight ears. They are extremely striking with their large, alert brown eyes, streamlined form, and energetic pace.

The guanaco is native to the arid, mountainous regions of South America. Guanaco are found in the altiplano of Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina. In Chile and Argentina they are more numerous in Patagonian regions, in places like the Torres del Paine National Park, and Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego in fact has an overpopulation of guanacos. Bolivian Indians have been known to raise guanacos to help them regain their population stability. A guanaco's average life span is 20-25 years.

Bonjour Albert! Que de beaux détails dans ce portrait d'un Guanaco. Excellente exposition et très bon piqué, bravo!

This is a great portrait Albert. The natural colors and details are super. It is an interesting composition against the dark background. I am curious about the circumstances surrounding this shot. You took it at Machu Picchu... are they just wandering around there wild??

Evelynn : )

Hi Albert

A fine portrait of this guanaco in his native land. Here in south-east Australia, they are farmed for their highly prized wool. Glad to see you made it Machu Picchu, its on my list of palces to visit sometime.
Good composition and sharpness.

Very beautiful portrait of this Lama you shot in South America, Albert. The details and colours are just perfect.
It is always a pleasure to look at your images you post on TN rather infrequently.
Thanks and best regards.

Hallo Albert,

bonjour Albert
