Great Black Hawk
Buteogallus urubitinga

I know about the branches... But they are everywhere in a jungle...

*The Great Black Hawk, Buteogallus urubitinga, is a bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, which also includes the eagles, hawks and Old World vultures.

The Great Black Hawk is a resident breeding bird in the tropical New World, from Mexico through Central America to Peru, Trinidad and northern Argentina. It resembles the Common Black Hawk, but is larger with a different call and tail pattern.

This is a mainly coastal bird of forest and open woodland near water. It builds a large stick nest in a tree, and usually lays one dark-blotched whitish egg.

The adult Great Black Hawk is 56 to 64 centimeters long and weighs 1.1 kilograms. It has very broad wings, and is mainly black. The short tail is white with a broad black tip. The bill is black and the legs and cere are yellow.

The sexes are similar, but immature birds are dark brown above with spotting and streaks. Their underparts are buff with dark spots, and the tail has a number of black and dusky bars. The call of Great Black Hawk is a distinctive piping ooo-wheeeeee.

The Great Black Hawk feeds mainly on reptiles, other small vertebrates and large insects, often hunted on foot. This species is often seen soaring above woodlands.

Hello Selen,
The branches and the busy rainforest BG don't prevent a sharp and detailed view of this Great Black Hawk taken from a fine POV with excellent use of flash in the poor light.
TFS this fine (new for TN?) image,
Cheers,
Ivan

Hi Selen,

For the mear fact you’re in the jungle, under a canopy, in difficult lighting conditions, this is just an excellent catch of this stunning looking bird of prey, the detail is superb, and I only wish to get this good, just wonderful.

Hi Selen,

Selen dostum,
I'm back in Izmir for a couple of days and noticed your fine tele-shot of this splendid hawk specimen, you've succesfully rendered the branches in the foreground OOF by utilizing the largest aperture available to you, selectively focusing on the bird, and the exposure is perfect to glean maximal detail on the dark plumage. Alltogether a product of good expertise, TFS indeed!

Selam selen hanım, Peru sandığından güzel bir enstantane. Bakışlar çok tatlı:) Elinize sağlık.

Hello Selen,
Branches are everywhere in the jungle:-). I guess the focus is important here and it must be said that the Great black hawk is overall Great. And the Black is technically well done. Finally I hope I wasn't too Hawkish concerning my critique:-).
Well done
Thanks for sharing
Annick

There are times when the branches have to be there, or you do not get the shot. I like to see the species and the natural surroundings too.Especially when I have never seen one before. The flash gave you some nice light Selen.
TFS.
Be safe:)

Merhaba Selen, beautiful bird, great details and splendid sharpness, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio
