[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [Spanish]
This is a small gift for my friends Esteve (Lordpotty) and Laszlo (Hormon Manyer) (the fungi doctors!). In any case, I can say that this image not has the color and detail of fungi Esteve sample, much less the glory and brightness of the shares by Laszlo, but, really, fungi are striking and interesting, and worth photographing and learn a little, while capturing images of them.


The fungus pictured here is called "rose stick" and are usually found on dead trunks of trees in the process of decomposition. The fungus of the photo is young, after a few days take a yellow color, becoming dark brown to almost to death before.

I know less fungi, so far had not caught my attention. I must confess that I have been very difficult to classify. I can not find pages of Venezuela specialized fungi. I had to myself of pages of Costa Rica and Mexico to find information and compare images.

Match the structure to the species "Paxillus panuoides". I will investigate a little more to confirm the exact classification (accept any support!).

Finally, speaking a little more technical: The fungus was found in a wooded area, with very low luminosity, and the day was somewhat cloudy. I decided to make use of low-intensity flash (my camera has three levels, low, medium and high) to get enough light to record the interesting structure of the fungus, as well as its color, something neutral. I had enough opening to retain some detail the background, as the mood for the photo and see more about the location of the fungus. The approach used was automatic macro mode. The other options were for manual adjustment.

This fungi is beautiful - reminds me of both a rose and a shell. I love the colors and shadings and the superb details. You do an amazing job with your SXI10! Clarity and composition are superb.

Excellent photo of this fungi and very beautiful. Great sharpness and very fine details. Beautiful light and splendid colours contrasting against the dark BG. Excellent POV.
You are lucky to live in such a beautiful country. Five years ago I was there during a more than three weeks. I was very impressed about the nature. What a beauty! Unfortunately my camera was very dirty and the photos were very bad.

First of all thank You very much for Your kind dedication. Photo itself is excellent, clever use of flash. I myself don't like flash in most of the cases, but here it makes an awesome contrast between the bright fungi and the dark background. As Steve correctly said: brilliant management of exposure! No overexposed parts at all (in spite of flash), perfect sharpness, plenty of details - goes into my favorites immediately (and the person behind the lens to my fave photographers also). Huge congratulations, amigo, brilliant job. Gracias.

About the ID specification: it can't be Tapinella panuoides (Batsch) E.-J. Gilbert (= Paxillus panuoides (Fr.) Fr.), because it has different cap color + textures, different kind of lamellas (with different color) and growing exclusively on coniferal wood (mostly on Pinus), but very surely something from Lentinus genus (which genera's having hundreds of species). I don't know the exact ID either, but I'll make a deeper search soon.
