Epiphyllum oxypetalum - Family: Cactaceae
Epiphyllum oxypetalum a one night blooming cactus (commonly known as Lady of the Night, Queen of the Night, Night blooming cereus, Orchid cacti, and Dutchman's pipe) grows in tropical rainforests.
Flowers are produced from the nodes near the ends of its leaves in a very intensive white, which makes them stand out against the dark rainforest foliage calling the attention of their pollinators. Its flowers, that are quite large when compared to the leaves that support them, reach a diameter of 15 cm and have a very intensive intoxicatingly sweet fragrance, they will remain open until early morning and then be spent.This plant is to be found in the mountains surrounding the city.
