Actinote anteas (Doubleday, [1847])

Well, it's a shame, but this butterfly have the head hidden behind a part of the flower! But this species is so rare, why it seems appropriate to share with you in TN.

The Actinotes do not look like other butterflies in my garden. They have a constant and "ungainly" flight, seems to fly tired!. Settle few seconds in the flowers and immerse them a lot to drink, I think the proboscis is shorter than other butterflies!. Sometimes I see theY sipping from the flowers in very strange hours, almost on the night. But yesterday I had the opportunity to see this in the afternoon.

Thanks by stop and visit!

About this shot:

I'm having very funny moments making macros "from away" with my old Olympus bridge, I think it's worth another "Point & Shoters" fans can read this note!

With the Olympus I'm shooting mi latest macros from about 60 to 70 centimeters away, using between 2 and 5X optical zoom and apertures between f/5.6 to f/4. Interestingly, very blurry backgrounds are achieved (which always made me difficult to do, with my little cameras). I get to use the mode "aperture priority (A)" and commend to the processor of the camera adjust the shutter speed.
Depending on the case, I vary between spot and evaluative metering. Spot when things are very bright in the photo (as the case of my yellow flowers whose name I do not know) and evaluative when the whole environment is more or less similar in brightness.

To finish the enhance the of background, I use a tool to reduce noise (Net Image) with the option of "Low frequency noise" on.

You may know all these things, but for me are a novelty! :)

Hello Jesús,
Nice to see your posting as my neighbour!
A fine capture of this uncommon Heliconiid butterfly taken ffrom a fine POV that shows its features with nice sharpness and colours. Even though the head is partly hidden by the stamens while it is feeding it is a well composed image that is great to view!
Thanks and have a good weekend,

Wow ... what about that! Let me start with question - who can challenge that quality? Who? Bravo Jesus, I am so proud from your work here. This easily proves how a person with a small point and shoot camera can beat the work of many with far more sophisticated DSLR. It is true! What a quality indeed. wonderful brightness/detail and composition. Great color and point of view. Surely the honourable member Ram and some others must see this! Bravo Jesus! Enjoy your weekend with family and friends!

Hi Jesús.
Thanks for sharing this not so common butterfly. Even with the partially hidden compound eye, the markings on the wings are still beautiful.
Sharp focus and fine colors.

Hola Jesus.
Tu foto luce de Maravilla con hermsos colores que contrastan entre si. La Mariposa posada en esta flor tiene alta definicion, y creo que haces maravillas con este tipo de Camaras. Olympus es una camara de alta calidad.
Saludos Jesus

Hi Jesus
