[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One year ago I was in Nord France there I found these Grasshopper to the edge of the way, it's was difficult take this picture through the high sun, I hope that you can appreciate this picture.

I'm no specialist in macro shots, I want very gladly learn these technique.

Comment are very welcome.

The Grasshoppers have antennae that are almost always shorter than the body (sometimes filamentous), and short ovipositors. Those species that make easily heard noises usually do so by rubbing the hind femurs against the forewings or abdomen (stridulation), or by snapping the wings in flight. Tympana, if present, are on the sides of the first abdominal segment. The hind femora are typically long and strong, fitted for leaping. Generally they are winged, but hind wings are membranous while front wings (tegmina) are coriaceous and not fit for flight. Females are normally larger than males, with short ovipositors.

Hi John.
Very interesting POV of your nice close-up picture. Funny eye-contact, great sharpness and details of this insect. (I think this is cricket: see my photos of the same insect. Only I am not sure.) I also like rich and at the same time natural colours and lighting. Well done and TFS. My best wishes.
Alexei.

Salut John,
toujours aussi perfectionnisme, bravo. Très bonne qualité, avec des détails fins, une couleur extra.
La mise au point est à travailler :) à cette distance cela ne pardonne pas.

That's very impressive, John. The greens are saturated and provide good contrast. I'm amazed by the eyes, and the blur of the antennas gives a sense of motion. Well done.

Hakan

Hi John,

Hi John,
Wow, you've made a Grasshopper look really quite menacing! He really does look as if he is challenging you :-) Good image with good detail and good strong colours. The shallow DOF works well, however I think the focus should really be on the eyes, but here it seems to be on the Grasshoppers back.

For somebody who claims to be no macro specialist I think you've produced a good shot. The exposure and light is managed well.
Best regards,
Adrian

Very fine sharp. Excellent details and lovely colours.
Best wishes
Achim

Bonjour John

THIS is a funny face, John! That alone is worth a big smiley!
I think the composition is excellent using the symmetry of the animal. The depth of field is also helping. Tfs, Jay

Hi John,
That is a unique head on POV. The rich color saturation looks great. Nice detail in this hopper!

Hello John,
I appreciate your kind comment on my recent picture.
It is very modest of you to say that taking macro pictures is not your speciality.
This macro of a Grasshopper is a superb shot in every respect. The details on the insect's face have been brilliantly captured here.
Regards,
Ram

Hello John,
Interesting POV you chose to capture this species of Cricket, not grasshopper. Crickets have long antennae and this one is the Great Green Bush Cricket (Tettigonia viridissima). The POV demands a good DOF, which you managed quite well.
TFS,
Regards, Ivan

Hi John,
Time of day and the direction of the light is always one of the first things you should consider in your macro. A different time of day would be better here of course. Your point of focus should've been the head/eyes here, it looks a bit soft..
Hey soft in the head, that sounds like me ;}
Well done.
Howard

Hi John,

A nice close-up photo of the grasshopper which is difficult to take. The photo has a good composition, sharpness and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.

Pierre

Hello John,
eye catching, very powerful portrait of that bright green bush cricket, Tettigonia viridissima. Excellent point of view - thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

Hallo John
I am forever searching for the identity of my grasshopper I posted a while ago and while browsing through the gallery looking for grasshoppers I picked up this shiny and big eyed one of yours. It looks as if the hopper has been buffed for the occasion. The detail and tiny black spots on the hopper are well displayed. This frontal view is not often seen. Not the same as mine, and not what I am looking for, but very interesting looking hopper. Thanking you kindly for sharing.
Kind regards
Anna

Hello John. You have captured this grasshopper well against the tarmac. I have tried a few under natural habitant and did not stand out against the green background. You have done well here keeping good sharpness in the head and mouth. The light and shadow is well managed too. Good composition and thanks for sharing this image. Well done and best regards. Jusni

Hi John,
Although You said You aren't a macro specialist, this is an awesome shot. Eye to eye with the insect - excellent composition. Colors are very nice, too.
I'm not sure if You find my advice useful, but if You use gaussian blur on the non-focused parts (not too strong - 1,2-1,4 pixels) You can avoid grain on the background.
Tfs and congrats, regards from Hungary, László

Hi John,
the shallow dof really gives this shot an outstanding effect. I like the low anglw shot which allows the frontal sharpness and clarity.
The blurry is smooth and steady. Nice one.

Regards,
Foozi

Hi John,

Excellent macro with the focus and the dof. You caught it from great POV and all looks well composed too. Well seen.
TFS and have a nice night and WE!
Cheers,

Bayram
