Picture slightly cropped with +2 in sharpness and saturation.

This fellow was guarding her egg. Which was quite close to the riverside. She started screaming so I left the scene...

I was half the distance to this one than I ever been to a Grebe before. I'm a bit worried than when it hatches it might cause harm to the young ones if I get close. Any oppinions on that ?

Hi Staale, this is a magnificent shot! I see Grebes often but I can never get close enough for a good shot. You have out classed everyone with this one. Great close up with vivid colours and detail is nice and sharp. Great light. I watched the Grebes breed last year and they do seem to nest in precarious places. They seem to be succesful in breeding and carry the young on their backs. It may be better not to get to close though. Fabulous shot.

Amazing close-up and POV of this alarmed mother grebe, Staale. Great colors and body language, with the feathers all ruffled up. She was telling you something and she meant it.
I would not mess with her. : )

Hello Staale,
Amazing that one can achieve such a close shot of a Great-crested Grebe in the wild. I hope she was not too disturbed in her brooding.
Nicely presented portrait with fine detail in a good comp.
TFS,
Regards, Ivan

Hi Staale.
What a beauty you have pictured. Amazing portrait work. Composition and cropping are simply outstanding, as well as the lighting and colours. You have reflected the mood of this charming bird excellently too. Bravo and my best regards.
Alexei.

Hi
There are so many pictures of Great Crested Grebe because they are pretty easy to approach, but this one is really outstanding.
Nevertheless I would be extremely careful with pictures at a nest site. Many broods of many species worldwide have been lost due to Nature photographers. In some cases it is possible to take pictures at the nest without any disturbance, also with professional hides and approach it is sometimes possible but BE VERY CAREFULL and in case of any doubt, just do not do it.
Cheers
TOM

Splendid photograph of this grčbe in bridal parade; excel

this is a very interesting bird...

it is a little unfortunate that it isn't sharp. would have been a great picture! i think the sharpness is on the beak. the colors are really nice, composition is good and this is a perfect subject.

wow, amazing portrait of the angry grebe, staale! :-)
the pose is superb, as well as the light and colors, the sharpness is good on the face and beak, but looks a little bit soft on the other feathers around as there is no clear structure visible (at least on my monitor).
well done & take care, thor.
